INVASION OF DUST BUNNIES!

Join us on Saturday, February 11, for a pre-Lent cleaning of the church. There’s lots to do, so we plan to start about 8am. Come when you can and leave when you must. The dust bunnies love all of the nooks and crannies in our beautiful old church, and have made themselves quite at home. And the guy from Orkin can’t help us; he only does bugs, not bunnies.

EMERGENCY CLOSING
INFORMATION

In the event that we would call off church-related activities due to inclement weather or another emergency, our church website www.kirklandflc.org would be the first place to check for that information. In addition, calls would be made to local TV and radio stations to post it as well. If weather is so severe that you feel it is too dangerous to drive, you should stay home.

MEN’S BREAKFAST BIBLE STUDY

Study of the Psalms

All men are invited to join us for Breakfast and Bible Study on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of each month from 8-9:30am in the church Fellowship Hall. If you can’t make them all, that’s fine; try to commit to just one Saturday at a time. “A long journey begins with just one step.” Hope to see you there!

Please help us update our records…

Pastor Rasmussen and Jo Boehmer are always in the process of updating our church records. We’ve found that many are incomplete – missing information such as current phone numbers and addresses, cell phone numbers, email addresses, birthdates, anniversary dates, baptismal dates, family additions, etc. We’d appreciate it if you could help us in our endeavor to have complete records by taking some time and writing as much of that information as you have down, and getting it to Pastor or Jo ASAP. The address at church is First Lutheran, P.O. Box 287 , Kirkland , IL   60146 . Thank you!

CHURCH PHOTOS TO BE ARCHIVED!!!

First Lutheran’s webmaster, Shari Novotny, will soon begin an archive of photographs of First Lutheran Church , its history, members, activities, confirmation classes, events and more. She made this offer just after the photo directory (another of Shari ’s projects) was completed in 2008. Equipment updates currently taking place will provide the tools needed for that project. So now we need your help.

We need photographsclearly labeled with your name so that we may return them to you after we have scanned and identified them, as well as any information you are able to provide about the photograph (names, dates, events, and more).

ABOUT PHOTOS:  PLEASE, if you submitted a photo for the last church directory, please pick it up from Jo in the church office. Thank you J

LOOKING FOR LINKS

Most of us are comforted by and recognize the value of being lifted up in prayer, most often at times of illness, injury or bereavement. This usually happens during the Parish Concerns part of the weekend worship services. On occasion we receive word of an urgent prayer concern or request that just can’t wait for the weekend bulletins. It’s times like these that might call our prayer chain into action. If you’d like to be a “link” to the First Lutheran Prayer Chain, please let Jo (522-3886 or 522-2005) know as soon as possible. She’ll need your name and all phone numbers to reach you at, and will put together an updated list for each “link”.

POST OFFICE BOX DELIVERY NEEDS P.O. BOX NUMBERS!

A letter from Kirkland Postmaster Carolyn Suhr informs us that for customers getting post office box delivery, using only street addresses is no longer acceptable; your P.O. Box number must be included. The sorting machines used by the postal service may not recognize a street address of a post office box holder. Some Kirkland customers’ mail has been pulled by the machine and returned to sender before reaching Kirkland . Carolyn has no control over this, and strongly urges all post office box holders to start now to add your box numbers to your addresses, and notify all of your correspondence of your box number. If you need assistance or have any questions, please call the Kirkland Post Office at 815-522-3328.

SAVE CANCELLED STAMPS

Please save your cancelled stamps (do not tear the stamp). Louise Hoffman will forward them to Mosaic (formerly Bethage Missions) for sorting and sale to collectors. Stamps may be given to Alice or put on bulletin board.

KIRKLAND HISTORICAL SOCIETY

The Kirkland Historical Society General Meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at 7pm, Olson/Quiram Funeral Chapel in Kirkland. Sue Breese from the Joiner History Room will be the guest speaker. Please join us. Refreshments will be served.
